A group of concerned community members have handed a memorandum over to the municipality, following allegations of fraud leveled against Endumeni Mayor, Siboniso Richard Mbatha.
Mayor Mbatha is accused by the ANC of claiming R7 000 to attend a conference in Bloemfontein in July 2016, hosted by the Democracy Development Programme. The ANC claims that Mayor Mbatha never attended the conference which in any case ‘had never existed and that the invitation had been fraudulently created’.
Mayor Mbatha hit back, saying that he was being framed and that he had never received the R7 000. “I have attended these Democracy Development Programmes previously in Durban before I became Mayor. When I realised that this false invitation had been created in a bid to put me in a bad light, I reported the matter to the financial department who were to have investigated the issue.” Clearly, it is now been used by the ANC in a bid to constantly create turmoil in the hope that the MEC will put Endumeni under Administration and under the control of the ANC.”
In the memorandum, the group also stated that they are aware of an SMS doing the rounds which claims that the Mayor is colluding with the ANC to have the Acting Municipal Manager removed, in return for the ANC withdrawing the motion against him and appointing a more favourable candidate as the new MM.
