Municipality botches electricity accounts system, as thousands battle to pay their bill with Easy-Pay – WE HAVE A SOLUTION!

Thousands of people have been left stranded without an easy way to pay...

It should be an April Fool joke, but we are not in April, so it has to be true… The municipality have blundered when issuing this month’s (February) electricity accounts. So paying your current electricity account has to be done at the municipal offices, as the numbers on the accounts do not work on the Easy-Pay system. This has led to long, long queues…

This is the municipality’s error and nothing to do with the Easy-Pay system. Apparently, the number changed when the municipality re-registered themselves as Alfred Duma Municipality with Easy-Pay. Someone, however, forgot to put the correct number identifying the municipality and that is how thousands of people have been left stranded without an easy way to pay…

Life hack – How to pay at Easy-Pay, despite the blunder!

All you need to do is tell the teller at the Easy-Pay store to remove two zeros from your account… To be more precise, remove the sixth and seventh numbers, which we have been assured by the experts will always be zeros!

For example

91 120000 0123 1234 01 (This is a fictitious example of an electricity account number)

You count from the first number. In this example ’91 120000 0123 1234 01′. You remove the sixth and seventh zeros, so the number will be 91 1200 0123 1234 01.

You will have to ask the cashier nicely to do it manually.

We have checked and the system works as long as the two zeros are removed.

According to officials, the blunder will be rectified by next month. No official statement about the blunder has been released by the municipality.

Those that pay using EFT or other methods should check with the Municipality.
