UTRECHT – eMadlangeni Municipality hopes to do away with social ills.
This message was strongly conveyed with the opening of the Ward 2 War Room in Utrecht recently, through the municipality and Operation Sukuma Sahke (OSS).
The opening was attended by dignitaries including Deputy Mayor, Ntsikelelo Ndlovu.
Cllr Ndlovu, who has been identified as a champion in Ward 2, talked on the need to prioritise service delivery for the community and to resolve challenges of inequality.
He also mentioned social ills which continue to harm the community.
“These are issues of substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, domestic abuse and the alarming crime rate.”
In acknowledging these, Cllr Ndlovu called for a collaborative effort to ensure services reached every community member, especially given the new ward demarcations for Utrecht.
He then handed over to Mafika Ndebele, the Local Task Team (LTT) chairperson.
Mr Ndebele said the LTT would support the War Room fully, and said a clear action plan to deal with social ills was paramount.
He also said the War Room needed an induction on its role in OSS.
The eMadlangeni Municipality Special Programmes officials announced there would be an election for the establishment of various sector forums for all wards.
At the conclusion of the launch, the War Room executive committee was elected.
Its official members are Sheila Mpisane, Ntongolozi Bophela, Ntombikayise Khumalo and Busisiwe Mazibuko.
