Long grass and rubbish bring snakes and rats into Ladysmith homes

In the centre of the vacant land is a 'no dumping' sign that makes no difference at all

Long grass and rubbish have brought Rose Terrace homeowners to the end of their tether, as they have repeatedly asked for something to be done about the situation.

There is a large piece of vacant land between the houses in the street, which is overgrown with long grass. People dump there as well, which only makes matters worse.

Homeowners now face a huge problem of snakes, rats and mosquitoes coming into their homes from the long grass.

In the centre of the vacant land is a ‘no dumping’ sign that was put up by the municipality, but that doesn’t make a difference as people continue to dump right next to the sign.

Residents say the area was cleared by the municipality on one occasion, but they just left everything in a heap in the middle of the vacant land.

One furious grandmother says she has small grandchildren and they cannot even play outside, as the snakes and rats move freely through their yard. “If they get bitten by a snake, what will they do?” she asks.

Residents want the vacant land to be cleared and for the illegal dumping to stop.
