Residents and business owners in Farquhar Road and surrounding streets are furious after being asked by Alfred Duma Local Municipality to put their trash back in their yards.
The reason for the request being that municipal workers responsible for picking up trash have been on a strike that commenced on Monday.

Raymond Makhathini, who is the manager in the Department of Cleaning & Solid Waste, pleaded to those who take out their trash on Monday and Tuesday to put it back in their yards, as the workers only started working yesterday (March 8).
“Yes, there has been a strike and that is the reason trash hasn’t been collected. I would like to urge all residents to please put back the trash in their yards, as it will only be collected the following Tuesday (March 14).”
Mr Makhathini could not tell us why the workers were striking, but apologised for any inconvenience caused.
To reiterate, trash will only be picked up again on Tuesday next week.
