Sewer water flows for months on end behind Ladysmith’s Police Flats

Cllr Warasally is appalled by the living conditions the men in blue have to face every day when they leave their homes to fight crime

Sewage has been flowing for months on end behind the Ladysmith Police Flats.

Police officers are currently living with a foul stench on their doorstep each and every day.

Officers say they have contacted uThukela and other departments to try and get the issue sorted out, but still the problem persists.

The officers add that they can’t even use the garage space provided behind the flats, as that area has been completely covered with raw effluent.

“The flies and mosquitoes are unbearable,” said a police officer’s wife.

Every morning is a challenge for their children to walk to the car to be taken to school. They say it’s like playing Hop Scotch on the stones before getting into the car.

One officer says that copper pipes were stolen weeks ago and ever since, clean running water has been left to flow and go to waste.

Councillor Abbas Warasally visited the flats and will be aiding the officers in having their problems attended to. Cllr Warasally is appalled by the living conditions the men in blue have to face every day when they leave their homes to fight crime.

Clean water just flowing and going to waste where the pipes were stolen

The police officers say that the sewer has been leaking since before December last year and they really need the problem to be fixed pronto.
