Dundee pair win district mixed pairs title
Jo-Ann and Greg Conolly earned a place at the national play-offs after winning the district mixed pairs competition.
The KwaZulu-Natal Country Bowls District hosted its annual Mixed Pairs Play-offs in Mtunzini, Zululand, last weekend, with the winners and runners-up from the district’s three zones competing for a place in the South African Mixed Pairs Play-offs.
Final match decides district champions
After four rounds of play, Jo-Ann and Greg Conolly of Dundee Bowling Club and Barbara Baleri and Jimmy Nel of Klipbank Bowling Club in Ladysmith were tied on points, with each pair having suffered only one defeat.
Their final match against one another proved decisive in determining the champions. Jo-Ann and Greg continued their impressive form, taking an early lead and maintaining their advantage throughout the contest. The Dundee pair secured the district title and earned the opportunity to represent the district at the South African Mixed Pairs Play-offs in Nelspruit later this year.
Zululand dominates Inter-Zone Tournament
The mixed pairs competition was followed by the annual Inter-Zone Tournament, where four men’s teams and four ladies’ teams from each of the district’s three zones competed against one another.
At the conclusion of play, Zululand topped the standings in both the men’s and ladies’ divisions.
Midlands finished second in both categories, while the Northerns Zone placed third in the men’s and ladies’ competitions.
