MUST READ: Judy Jordan opens up her art studio to Newcastle

"These women are very talented. Each applique art has a story behind them."

Judy Jordan is a master in her own right when it comes to visual arts.

Mrs Jordon obtained a post-graduate degree in visual arts from the University of South Africa in 1985, and has ever since taken the art world by storm.

This distinguished artist has sold her works to galleries in Durban, Margate, Pietermaritzburg and Empangeni, as well as to private buyers.

She was the Curator of the Carnegie Art Gallery for 24 years until her retirement in 2015.

Embracing this new phase in her life has not stopped her from pursuing her first love – creating magnificent art from her studio at her home.

“I feel incomplete just doing nothing in my golden years. I feel I need to do more,” she said.

Her creative mind compelled her to open her art studio to aspiring artists and people who are interested in art.

“I would like to give artists a place where they could exhibit their artworks and gain exposure.”

Artworks across a broad spectrum from telephone wire weaving pieces to bead work and wood carved antiquity just to name but a few are on display in her studio.

She will offer lessons in pottery, textile printing, casual workshops and any other craft the public would be interested in pursuing.

Mrs Jordon has been involved in the Isiphetu Group since its inception 15 years ago. The group aims to empower women through applique art.

“These women are very talented. Each applique art has a story behind them.”

She said most of the women are unemployed due to ill health and rely on selling their art to make a living.

“I would like to get more people involved in art. I want to teach people the building blocks of art,” she said.

If you looking for a new hobby or simply wish to hone your artistic skills, Judy Jordon can be contacted on 034 325 9076 or email jordonjudy15@gmail.com.

Alternatively, visit her studio at 8 Heuwel Lane.
