Ladysmith homeowners and property owners gathered at Ladysmith High School’s boys’ hostel on Monday (March 20) to discuss the “unreasonable” valuation of properties by Alfred Duma Local Municipality.
Residents feel that the valuation of properties went sky high, and claim it’s unreasonable and irrational.
The purpose of the meeting, hosted by the Ladysmith Ratepayers Association (LRPA), was to object to the municipality’s valuation system.

Residents feel they are being robbed by the local municipality.
“We are not satisfied with the property valuation that was done by the municipality and this is why we are gathered here, to object,” said Anthon Bakker, chairman of the LRPA.
Those who attended were given a form to fill in their objections and present to the municipality.
According to what was said at the meeting, ratepayers have limited time to submit their objections.
