Ladysmith municipal workers are still on strike today (March 23).
This follows yesterday’s heavy protest action in Murchison Street and also at all municipal offices in the main street.
The large group of protesters brought the main street of town to a standstill yesterday, as they marched for better pay and also against the out-sourcing of jobs.
According to one worker, they are unhappy that the municipality continues to out-source work to private contractors who then pay their employees peanuts.
The workers stormed through the Lister Clarence Building, instructing non-striking workers to leave or face the consequences.

This morning, Cllr Abbas Warasally told the Ladysmith Gazette that he tried to contact the municipality to find out what is going on with the strike.
The call went through to Public Safety from the municipality, showing that there isn’t any work taking place today.
It is unclear at this stage how many municipal services are affected by the strike.
Attempts by the Ladysmith Gazette to contact the municipality also result in being put through to Public Safety, which normally only happens when the municipality is closed.
