The deteriorating state of the newly rehabilitated Alfred Street is a concern amongst many business owners in the area. The rehabilitation project started in March 2015 and the roads and pavements were scraped and resurfaced.

While residents expected a smooth transition after most of the road works was complete, it hasn’t been quite as anticipated. Cracked road surfaces, blocked drains and potholes have already started to surface on Alfred Street.
A staff member from a business in the street has expressed concern about the worsening road conditions, which is negatively affecting the business.
“Shortly after the recent road ‘upgrade; the condition of the road pavement and driveways is fast deteriorating. Despite numerous calls and e-mails to the municipality there is no sign or indication of remedial work to repair the road or driveway. As a result access to our property for both equipment and customers is severely hampered. We become stuck or simply can’t enter,” explained the staff member.
He hopes that by highlighting this concern through the media, it would draw attention from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality or the contractors.
