More RDP houses to be built

More RDP houses are on the cards for AbaQulusi following the purchase of land across from the Sasko area.

ABAQULUSI Municipality is determined to continue providing housing for community members.

RDP houses were among the main topics that were discussed at the council meeting held on March 28.

According to Acting Municipal Manager, Dalisu Zulu, the hold up with the housing situation was the issue of land availability.

“We have found vacant land across the road from the Sasko area. The land owner has agreed to sell and we are currently finalising negotiations,” the acting MM assured council members.

Mayor of AbaQulusi, Martin Mtshali, also voiced his unhappiness with how slowly the housing projects were moving.

“It cannot take eight to ten years to obtain land. The people who are placed in charge of this are not local and thus don’t seem to care about local people. Should such behaviour continue, we will have to take measures to have them removed and replace them with people who do want to work,” said the Mayor.

Although it is currently unclear when the construction of more RDP houses is set to start, the land has been bought and more details will follow as the story unfolds.
