Newcastle Corner moves into second phase

CEO of the Dis-Chem Group, Ivan Saltzman said the group was pleased to offer local residents everything they had come to expect and value from Dis-Chem.

HUTTEN HEIGHTS – Dis-Chem has been confirmed as the new anchor tenant for Newcastle Corner.

The second phase of the mall will open for business in September, adding a 1 200 square metre Dis-Chem store to the already existing centre.

Opening the store is said to be in line with meeting strong customer demands.

CEO of the Dis-Chem Group, Ivan Saltzman said the group was pleased to offer local residents everything they had come to expect and value from Dis-Chem.

“Newcastle Corner has the correct profile for the first Dis-Chem pharmacy in the area, and we are proud to become part of this great community.”

According to developer, Retail Network Services (RNS), the new addition to the Newcastle Corner is a continuation of the centre’s ‘track record of retail firsts for KwaZulu-Natal’s largest city’.

And RNS has stated there’s plenty more to come.

The second phase will introduce a range of restaurants and fast food franchises, including RocoMamas, Fishaways and Debonairs, plus a Kodak store and a gym.

This is the second of three phases at a total investment cost of R150-million.

Gavin Tagg, CEO of RNS, commented: “We are excited to grow this new convenience centre development and give the people of Newcastle an ever-increasing selection of convenient, safe and quality new retail and leisure in their very own top-notch shopping centre. We are especially pleased to introduce Dis-Chem to the city’s shoppers.”

Tagg said in addition to retail variety, Newcastle Corner was a welcome asset to Newcastle because of its convenience factor.

He described Newcastle as a great location in an established and developing node.

“With this new centre and its upcoming second phase, we are creating a consolidated convenience retail and eatery node on the main access road from Johannesburg into Newcastle.”

The third phase of Newcastle Corner will reportedly build on the success of the great choice, and is promised to give shoppers even more to look forward to.
