Roadside hazard restored to usable state
The perilous pavement that was once both a danger and an eyesore to the community, has been swiftly repaired.
ROADSIDE vendors and pedestrians who trade and travel in the Church Street area, below East Street, were all smiles last week, following the swift repair of the perilous pavement that was, once both a danger and an eyesore to the community.
“Very soon after the photos appeared in the Vryheid Herald, the municipality came and fixed the pavement,” stated one vendor, cheerfully pointing to the brand new concrete paving that recently replaced the, once, treacherous stretch of exposed substratum.

According to the vendor, the municipal workers, believed to be from the Department of Roads and Stormwater, pitched up on the Friday morning following the release of the article entitled ‘Roadside goes to wrack and ruin’ on page 4 of the April 21 edition of the Vryheid Herald, and set about making the pavement safe to walk on once again.
“We are very happy,” she stated, regarding the municipality’s quick response, seemingly following the attention of the media, after the condition of the pavement had allegedly been deteriorating for more than a year.
