Murchison Street, outside the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court was on lock down again as Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF), Chief in Command (CIC), Julius Malema made his appearance over calls to supporters to invade unoccupied land.
Mr Malema was charged twice for contravening the Riotous Assemblies Act over comments he made to supporters in Newcastle and Bloemfontein. He has since also been charged under common law for the same matter, which goes on trial in July.
In November last year after his second appearance, Mr Malema told EFF supporters, the political party was in Newcastle to disturb the white man’s peace and encouraged supporters to take what is rightfully theirs.
The prosecutor asked for the matter to stand down until October 13 for Mr Malema’s Constitutional Court challenge to be completed.
“Nothing is more painful than having to explain the land struggle to a white Magistrate. No white person will ever understand that,” said Mr Malema.

The EFF leader further encouraged the crowd to occupy land without fear or favour.
“Occupy the land while you are still alive because if you don’t, you will only have one piece of land in death: your grave,” he concluded.
