AbaQulusi municipality to tackle wasteful expenditure

Issues surrounding wasteful expenditure will no longer be taken lightly at AbaQulusi Municipality.

IT SEEMS that issues surrounding wasteful expenditure will no longer be taken lightly at AbaQulusi Municipality.

This was the impression given by recently elected Deputy Mayor, Jerry Sibiya, when he addressed the IDP and Budget roadshow that was held at Bhekuzulu Hall on Sunday, April 22.

“We are aware of how money has previously been spent carelessly in our municipality. All these issues will be dealt with accordingly. For example, it has come to our attention that the municipality was forking out about R650 000 to pay the call centre. This is way too much money. There are other matters we should be spending such amounts of money on,” said Cllr Sibiya to the great shock of present members of the public.

Cllr Sibiya said that the R580 million available for the coming financial year would be used wisely in order to avoid a financial crises similar to the one that was left behind by those previously in local government prior to last year’s elections.
