Multiple arrests for Uthukela Cluster police

An operation in the Weenen area resulted in the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and the arrest of a 68-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm

Six people were arrested during the course of the weekend in three separate operations held in the Uthukela Cluster.

Police officers from the Uthukela Cluster Task Team, Ladysmith Tactical Response Team, Uthukela Trio Crime Task Team, as well as Visible Policing Units concentrated on the proliferation of firearms as well as drugs in the cluster.

An operation in the Weenen area resulted in the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and the arrest of a 68-year-old suspect for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.

While a 31-year-old suspect was arrested for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm as well as intimidation.

The group also turned their focus to the Ladysmith, Ezakheni and Amangwe (Loskop) areas where three people aged 18, 57 and 67 were arrested for selling liquor without a licence. All suspects will appear in various courts in the cluster. During these operations several vehicles, premises as well as persons were searched.
