Municipality embarks on water awareness campaign in Ladysmith

The main aim of these awareness campaigns is to educate communities about the importance of saving water and the seriousness of water scarcity

As part of activities to urge people to use water sparingly, uThukela District Municipality embarked on roadshows to increase awareness concerning water conservation and demand management during events that were held in Alfred Duma, Inkosi Langalibalele and Okhahlamba municipalities respectively.

uThukela Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko – accompanied by Deputy Mayor Nombali Sibiya, Cllr MV Khumalo and other officials – launched the campaign which lasted over a three-day period.

The main aim of these awareness-raising campaigns is to educate communities about the importance of saving water, the seriousness of water scarcity and also to encourage people to take care of the environment.

“We must all play our part in conserving water. Water is life and everyone has a right to potable water. We appeal to those who can afford to pay to change their attitude and do the right thing, and the indigent will be assisted,” said the mayor.

Health & Environment Department officials were also part of the campaign, urging communities not to dump waste anywhere and anyhow, as there are safe ways to dispose of waste material.
