Water supply update

"Slowly but surely we are getting there. Against all the criticism, the people are very glad to have water in their taps again. "

Issued by Cllr Alta de Kock

AFTER the initiative of the DA with the practical plan to restore the water in town, we are happy to say that many people do now have water in their taps. We did not expect it to run without any obstacles or problems. As you know by now, it has been a very difficult task to keep everybody happy. After the protest from Bhekuzulu and Lakeside residents, we had to open up the whole town and surrounding areas, without being able to continue zone after zone, and stop all the leakages. That was the reason why the teams were buried under loads of reports of leakages. Our thanks to the three teams of the AbaQulusi Municipality who worked long hours. Slowly but surely we are getting there. Against all the criticism, the people are very glad to have water in their taps again. One of the main pipes at the High Street Bridge needs to be repaired, which is supplying the industrial area, Sasko and the dumpsite. Those areas will only have water after the pipe has been replaced.

Thanks to everybody who reported the leaks, and assisted in identifying the leakages. We need to work together to make our town a better place for all. Please continue to use water wisely; the water restrictions have never been lifted!!

Please assist by being awake and look out for those who want to sabotage our water meters, are cutting pipes and stealing fire hydrants. We are also very thankful for the lovely rains we have had, which will lift the levels of the dams.
