Newcastle residents rally to assist Somalia at successful market day

Somalia is in the grip of a severe drought and Somalis are suffering the bitter effects.

NEWCASTLE CBD – A market day was held in the parking lot outside Imphupu Wholesalers last Saturday to raise funds for Somalia.

Somalia is in the grip of a severe drought and Somalis are suffering the bitter effects.

This has prompted three organisations to unite for a common cause – raising vital funding for the country of Somalia.

Gift of the Givers, the Al-Imdaad Foundation and the Africa Muslim Agency have stepped up to the plate.

While each organisation is determined to donate as much bottled water, tinned food and funding as possible, they cannot do it alone and have appealed for help from the community.

Newcastillian and passionate volunteer, Rubeena Jadwat, has offered to assist the three organisations with the collection of donations.

“We are collecting tinned foods, as well as money to have boreholes built,” Ms Jadwat explained.

As the survival of a nation relies on the generosity of others, Newcastle residents are encouraged to open their hearts to the Somali people.

Ms Jadwat can be contacted on 072 778 6331.
