“The hardest thing in life is to lose a child”

Once the parents arrived at the scene of the collision, nothing could have prepared them for the sight that greeted them.

Sisters, Sanam and Rhea Mohan were involved in a fatal collision, claiming Sanam's life and injuring Rhea.

“Mama and dada, I love you and miss you lots. Can’t wait to be home.”

These were the last words from Sanam Mohan before she was tragically killed in a head-on collision on the N11 that claimed the lives of two people and critically injured one.

Sisters, Rhea and Sanam Mohan where travelling to Newcastle on Saturday, May 13, excited to see their family and spend Mother’s Day with their dearest.

Relaying the last memories of their daughter, distraught parents Charmaine and Sanjeev Mohan, mourn their loss in utter shock and despair.

Mrs Mohan said her daughters were travelling from Durban on the day, and like every concerned parent, she cautioned them to be safe and began preparing their favourite dishes in anticipation of their arrival.

“We received a message from the girls, saying they arrived at Ultra City rest stop at 9.30am.”

After two hours of no communication, Mrs Mohan became concerned, and sent another message, inquiring the whereabouts of her children.

“It’s every parent’s nightmare, knowing your children are travelling and receiving a call from the Traffic Department notifying you that your child has died,” said an emotional Mr Mohan.
