Tuesday, Day 1:
We departed from Uelzen at 8am for the Babanango Valley.
When we got there we unpacked and put our bags in our tents. The two facilitators, Russel and Bianca, had a quick talk to us before we started our activities. They gave us a packet of beans and said, “the one with the most beans will win R55”. After the talk, we went for a little tour of an abandoned copper mine. It was very interesting. I learnt many new things. After the copper mine, we went back to camp and had lunch. After that, we had some free time until supper. For supper, we had “crocodile sausages” with pap “ant soup”. The sausages had “scorpion fillings” and for dessert, we had “last night’s leftover veggies”. It was delicious! We then went on a night walk. My friends and I were TERRIFIED! Russel spoke to us about the stars. We were less scared then. Suddenly we heard a noise. We started running and running as if the devil wanted our souls! But it turned out that Bianca had just dropped a stone in the bush! My friends and I were split because of that!

Wednesday, Day 2:
When we woke up, we got dressed, brushed our teeth and had breakfast. Later, we went to an obstacle course. My group was the “Sharks” and Shanice’s group was the “Tidal Waves”. Our groups joined and we called ourselves the “Shaka Waves”. It was really fun! After the obstacle course, we went back to camp and had tea-time. During tea-time, Russel and Bianca opened the tuck shop for us. After that, we learnt about bushcraft. We had to build a shelter, which didn’t turn out well but it was fun. Russel said that we are going to sleep in it but we all knew Russel was joking. We learnt how to make a fire. After that we had lunch then we went to the river. We were put into our groups and we had to build a miniature raft.

It was great fun! My group and I got eight out of ten.
When we were done with that, we all jumped into the river. We even had a mud fight! I was covered in mud. When we finished that we came back to camp, had a bath and had free time until supper. For supper we had chicken and rice and for dessert it was marshmallows on a stick. We could fry it and then put caramel sauce on top. This was delicious! After that we played ‘stalk the lantern’. That was really fun! Kaamilah found the lantern. We then changed into our pyjamas and went to the “courtroom”. We had many cases. Then we went to bed.
Thursday, Day 3:
We woke up, had breakfast and packed up. Then we headed for home. Finally after like a million years we had music. Thanks to Uncle Gerhardus for organising it. (Contributed by Rhea Nehro, Grade 6)
