Music on the battlefields with John Edmond

John had the Americans doing an enthusiastic version of Sarie Marais

Well-known singer and entertainer, former Rhodesian, John Edmond, was recently in Dundee, performing in a unique four-day combined battlefields-and-music tour.
Battlefield guide, Nicki von der Heyde, presented different battlefields each day and John sang lyrics each evening at the Royal Country Inn recounting the action of the same battles.
His repertoire included songs about Blood River, the Zulu War and the First and Second Boer Wars.

John’s career dates back to the early 70s and he has composed numerous songs that describe South African battles accurately and in rhyme. His CDs make great listening and are all for sale at Talana Museum. Pam McFadden, Talana Museum curator, attended one of the evening performances held at the Royal Country Inn, where the group stayed for the duration of the tour. Eleven members of the group travelled from California to attend the event, and thoroughly enjoyed the novel concept of history presented on site, and then in song.

On Saturday, John had the Americans doing an enthusiastic version of Sarie Marais while local tour guides, Pat Rundgren and Johann Hamman, gave the visitors a run down on the Martini Henri used during the Anglo-Zulu War.
