A wealth of information at the wellness day

Pleased with the response, organisers said it was encouraging to see people playing an active role in living healthily.

Despite the cold, more than 150 people put their health first and attended the HPS blood camp and wellness day on May 28.

The event was hosted by the Hindi Pracharni Sabha (HPS), in conjunction with the Cancer Association of South Africa, at Wonderland Pre-Primary School.

Pleased with the response, organisers said it was encouraging to see people playing an active role in living healthily.

“The turnout was absolutely overwhelming,” said Ash Baignath, Chairman of HPS.

Other stakeholders, such as Newcastle Child Welfare and the Hollard Insurance Group of Newcastle, also took the opportunity to engage with attendees and offer their advice.

The South African National Blood Service also recorded many donors giving the gift of life.

The following services were available to the public free of charge:

– Vital checks including blood pressure and sugar testing

– Breast examinations

– Medical advice by General Practitioners

– Legal desk for legal inquiries

– B12 injections

– Blood donations

– Somatologist consultations

– Occupational Therapist advice

– Optician services

– Dentistry consultations

– Cholesterol testing, and a CANSA information desk.

If you missed the chance to take advantage of this service, HPS will be hosting additional blood camps at Wonderland Pre-Primary School on August 6 and October 22.
