Nofta celebrates an early Father’s Day

Guests were able to enjoy a relaxing evening where they were reminded of the special roles fathers played in families, while dining on a scrumptious meal.

Newcastle Organisation For The Aged (Nofta) hosted its annual Father’s Day event on Saturday evening (June 10) at the Nofta Service Centre.

Chairperson, Rajesh Ramdaw said this year’s celebration was the first time in years where the women were invited to join the celebrations.

Unlike previous years where a braai was held for the fathers, Ramdaw said it was decided to have all Nofta members enjoy the night together.

Bully Singh added there was a special reason why the celebrations were held a week prior to Father’s Day.

“We want fathers to be able to enjoy the day with their families and children, which is why we held it this weekend.”

Reshma Maharaj, the keynote speaker of the night, read a poem dedicated to fathers, which highlighted their role in family life and in society.

The most glamorous fathers were also chosen on the night, much to the delight of guests who witnessed the top three fathers selected as winners.
