Four dead, 17 injured in taxi, car crash

Seventeen other patients were found on the scene. Assessments showed that the injuries sustained ranged from minor to moderate.

Four people have been killed and seventeen others injured on Friday when a taxi and light motor vehicle collided on the R34  on the Memel Road near the Ingogo turnoff outside Newcastle.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at approximately 6.45kam finding both wrecked vehicles in the middle of the road. Several patients were found lying around the two vehicles.
Several other services were already found on scene assessing the patients.
“Upon closer inspection, paramedics found the lifeless bodies of four lying on the scene.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that all four had already succumbed to their injuries. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for the patients and they were declared dead by another service,” said ER 24 spokesman, Russel Meiring.
Seventeen other patients were found on the scene. Assessments showed that the injuries sustained ranged from minor to moderate.
Paramedics treated the patients and thereafter after transported them to various hospitals in the area for urgent treatment.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
