s a historic moment when Bonga Shangase took the chain of office when he was inducted President of the Dundee Rotary Club.
The induction dinner took place at Battlefields Country Lodge on Friday evening with Rotarians paying tribute to outgoing President, Anthony Coleman.
Bonga, who is a School Principal, has been a Rotarian since 2009, having been introduced to the service organisation by Thami Shozi.
He was pleased to introduce the 2017/18 international Rotary theme which has been dubbed ‘Making a difference’. And Rotary does make a huge difference through its many community projects in the district – the biggest one being the Rota-Dent project which sees hundreds of disadvantaged school children be given access to dental treatment.

Rotarian Anthony made an emotional speech where he thanked his wife, Tish, and his fellow Rotarians for their sterling support over the past year. He remarked that he knew Rotary was going to have a great year with Bonga at the helm. The Dundee Rotary Club was established in 1953 with George Funston the charter president. Rotary is an international organisation that makes a difference in over 200 countries through its 1,2-million members. Watch the Courier for news of their community efforts!
