ANC boycotts Council meeting as stalemate continues

Speaker Makhathini-Mbatha concurred saying that she would be contacting the MEC to complain about the ANC Councillors disrupting meetings and putting service delivery at risk

The IFP has called for drastic action to be taken against ANC Councillors who ‘continuously boycott Council meetings and put service delivery in jeopardy’.

So said Mayor Richard Mbatha and Speaker Bongiwe Makhathini-Mbatha at today’s Council meeting which was called off as a quorum could not be raised.

Since the IFP terminated the services of Ward 3 Councillor, T Zitha, there are just 12 Councillors in Endumeni but a quorum for a meeting to go ahead.  This morning there were six Councillors – three IFP, two DA and one EFF.

Mayor Mbatha said he could not understand why the ANC was staying away as the decision that would have been taken include the tabling of the Integrated Development Plan, IDP, which is the blueprint for service delivery in the municipal area.

“These councillors were elected by their wards to represent them. But they are not doing that.  Action must be taken,” he told the meeting.

Speaker Makhathini-Mbatha concurred saying that she would be contacting the MEC to complain about the ANC Councillors disrupting meetings and putting service delivery at risk.

There was also queries from the Provincial Treasury regarding the municipal budget that would have been discussed.
