Burst pipe leaves Vryheid’s taps dry tonight

Klipfontein Water Works is being excavated and officials will work through the night to replace a 5m length of asbestos pipe with PVC.

Vryheiders should prepare to spend the night without water.

An old asbestos pipe feeding the reservoir has burst just inside the Klipfonetin Water Works Plant. While repair work is currently underway, water supply will only be restored tomorrow morning.

Municipal officials are hard at work excavating to reach the pipe that has burst, and they will be replacing a 5m section of asbestos pipe with PVC before switching the pumps back on.

DA councillor, Alta de Kock, cautions that residents should anticipate burst pipes and dry spells during the dry season and be prepared.

“Make sure that your JoJo tanks remain full, or store water in containers at home in case there is a problem,” she advised.
