Profiling the newly appointed Wembezi Station Commander
His motivation in life is being able to provide for his wife, Lynette, and his two children, Shane and Zan-Sha
Lieutenant Colonel Zane Samuel Lucas Dreyer is the newly appointed Station Commander of Wembezi South African Police Service (SAPS).
He was born in Estcourt and his school friend’s father was a police officer.
He remembers from a young age admiring the uniform the policeman was wearing and wanted to be a police officer. He has dedicated 28 years and five months of his life thus far to the police service. His two most memorable moments in the police were when, after three months of hard work, he solved a double murder case, which resulted in lengthy prison sentences and the day he became a Commissioned Officer.
If he had not become a police officer, he states would most probably have pursued farming as a career. His motivation in life is being able to provide for his wife, Lynette, and his two children, Shane and Zan-Sha.
“Knowing that I have a caring family at home and my contribution in fighting crime will help in keeping them safe,” says Lt Col Dreyer is what prompts him to give his best in everything he does.
His role model is his father and mother, because they taught him how to care for others. He enjoys being close to nature, fishing and hunting. This passion also extends to watching nature channels on television, which are his favourite.

He believes that people make mistakes in life and that a person can only learn from one’s mistake. At the age four he almost died after he was run over by a vehicle, but clearly God had other plans for him.
His motto in life is: “Do your work to the best of your ability; you will sleep much better at night.”
When time comes for him to retire, he would love to tour South Africa and experience all the places he has never been to.
