Gifting the elderly with warmth
"The cause of poverty is the fact that human beings; mankind, have forgotten that the rest of mankind and the rest of humanity are their brothers and sisters"
The Estcourt Town Hall was packed with grannies and grandfathers last Tuesday. Senior citizens from various wards in and around Estcourt gathered for a special Operation Sukuma Sakhe programme.
The programme partnered with the Health Department, the Al-Imdaad Foundation, Inkosi Langalibalele Local Task Team and others.
While a briefing was underway in the council chamber, the elderly lined up at a mobile clinic outside the town hall to have their blood pressure examined.

Ahead of the welcome speech, fruit hampers were given to the elderly. As part of the Al-Imdaad Foundation Operation Winter Warmth, warm blankets were donated to help the seniors brave the cold. The beneficiaries were identified by Operation Sukuma Sakhe.

Project Co-ordinator for the Al-Imdaad Foundation‘s Operation Winter Warmth, Waseem Mohamed urged the elderly to report poverty and elder abuse to their local war room. The Al-Imdaad Foundation was accompanied by a volunteer delegation, including students from the United States and South America.
One of the students, Sideequl Mia, from America said this during his address: “The cause of poverty is the fact that human beings; mankind, have forgotten that the rest of mankind and the rest of humanity are their brothers and sisters.”

He added that to eradicate poverty, we need to help where there is a need. In closing Mr Mia shared how honoured they felt to be part of the distribution with the Al-Imdaad Foundation and the Estcourt community.
