Over 80 arrests were made and livestock recovered during recent stock theft operations in the area.
The 10-day operation from July 9 to 19 was carried out by Stock Theft Units from Glencoe, Utrecht and Ladysmith, assisted by the Glencoe K9 Unit, Visible Policing and Crime Intelligence.
The operation targeted the areas of Dannhauser, Elandslaagte, Nhlanhleni, Glencoe, Newcastle, Osizweni, Utrecht and Dundee, with the aim of preventing the theft of livestock, recovering stolen livestock and ensuring that the community abides by the Animal Identification Act.
59 cattle, goats, horses and sheep were recovered, with a total of 81 suspects being arrested for stock theft, kidnapping, armed robbery, possession of dagga and contravening the Animal Identification Act.

Branded animals were returned to their lawful owners and unbranded ones kept for safekeeping.
All the suspects appeared in different magistrate’s courts.
Livestock owners are urged to abide by the Animal Identification Act by branding their livestock to prevent them from being stolen and for easy identification when found astray or confiscated from criminals.
