Another win for anti-fracking lobby

This follows on from a court decision turning down Rhino Oil and Gas's bid to drill for natural gas in the area.

Frack Free South Africa is celebrating another victory after news that the Sungu Sungu exploration company had withdrawn its application to drill for natural gas and oil in the Dannhauser area.

This comes shortly after news spread that the Department of Environmental Affairs had approved their application.

It was not immediately clear as to why Sungu Sungu had withdrawn the application that was done in writing by director, Thabang Khomo, to the Department.

Frack Free SA said they welcomed the decision and thanked all those who had ‘overwhelmed the Department of Environmental Affairs and PASA (Petroleum Association of SA)  with letters and phone calls.

This follows on from a court decision turning down Rhino Oil and Gas’s bid to drill for natural gas in the area.

It is with this in mind that Talana Museum will host a conference on this sensitive subject on Saturday, July 29, from 10am to be addressed by US professor, Devan McGranahan.
Prof McGranahan has been a visiting researcher in the Grassland Science department at the University of KZN in Pietermaritzburg. Back home in the USA, he studied fracking impacts on agricultural resources and rural communities and is interested in potential impacts of fracking in SA.
