Lt Col Zondi says that one of the highlights of her career was the day she qualified as a police officer

Being at the forefront of violence, grief, crime and sometimes death is something police officers face every day.

When Lieutenant Colonel Jeanette Zondi puts on her uniform each morning, she may not know what the day holds but she does know that she is tasked with keeping the community safe.

The 51-year-old is based at the Estcourt Police Station in Albert Street and is formerly from Pietermaritzburg. There she holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and has a BTech in Policing.

Lt Col Zondi says that one of the highlights of her career was the day she qualified as a police officer and since then she has dedicated her life to serving her community and country.In fact, her motto in life is ‘to ensure the community is safe’.

When asked to impart inspiring words to women who may be considering pursuing a career as a police officer, Lt Col

Zondi said: “I urge all females who are interested in a police career to do so, since protecting the community is not the responsibility of males, but it is also a responsibility of females.”
