Ladysmith K9 officers go beyond the call of duty to help dying cow
The officers tried to give the cow water from a bottle to drink
Ladysmith K9 officers went beyond the call of duty on Wednesday (September 27) to help a sick cow.
The cow was walking along Balsam Avenue when it collapsed at the side of the road.
Residents contacted Public Safety, and the Ladysmith K9 Unit was also contacted.
K9 cops Warrant Officer Jacques Meyer and Warrant Officer Hennie Steenkamp responded swiftly to the scene and attempted to save the cow, which could not get up.
The officers tried to give the animal water from a bottle to drink so it could gain some energy. The cow did not manage to drink anything and sadly passed away shortly afterwards, despite the officers trying their best to help.
W/O Jacques Meyer and W/O Hennie Steenkamp were thanked by the community for going the extra mile to try and save the cow’s life.

The sad look on the officers’ faces was evidence of just how much they care about life, whether human or animal.
Public Safety also responded to the scene and the dead cow was taken away.
