DHS moot court speakers second best in SA

After a nerve-wracking session in front of the panel and a tough competition from their opponents, they were judged second best in the country

Vuyo Ngobese, Philasande Mdletshe and Mrs Sewmangal arrived at OR Tambo International Airport on October 4 on their way to attend the semi-final round of the National Schools Moot Court Competition to be held in Pretoria. This prestigious event was held at the University of Pretoria, UP, in their reputable faculty of law.
The top 36 teams from the nine provinces in South Africa were competing. Philasande and Vuyo were required to argue a hypothetical case about a learner who was not allowed to wear a certain hairstyle and a declined proposal to change a school name that praised a person from the South Africa’s shameful past.
UP was filled with talented speakers but through hard work, determination and the grace of God these two DHS learners managed to get themselves to the finals which were going to be held in the Constitutional Court, the highest legislation in South Africa. They were to present in front of the bench of the Constitutional Court. They described this as an opportunity, which will live with them forever.
After a nerve-wracking session in front of the panel and a tough competition from their opponents, they were judged second best in the country !What a tremendous achievement. The finalists were awarded a law bursary by CDH, a prominent law firm, and invited to represent South Africa in the International Moot Court Competition. This is to be held in the beginning of January next year in the Netherlands. Mrs Sewmangal, thank you so much for all the hours of preparation and support, the travelling and the emotional guidance.
