Lanxess builds a classroom for Hlabana Primary School

During the needs analysis, it was discovered Hlabana Primary had a partially built classroom on its property which could be put to use.

In the pursuit of empowering children through education, Lanxess has built a classroom for Hlabana Primary School, in Madadeni Section 3.

The classroom was officially handed over on October 12, allowing the school to ease the continuing issue of overcrowded classrooms.

“Hlabana Primary School initially caught our attention during a needs analysis done of schools in the Madadeni area,” said Lanxess CISA Managing Director, Gerhard Strydom.

During the needs analysis, it was discovered Hlabana Primary had a partially built classroom on its property which could be put to use.

“Construction of the class was started by the School Governing Body, but could not be completed due to a lack of funds.”

As he believed education played an important role in children’s futures and the community at large, Strydom said Lanxess got involved.

“Education is an integral part of Lanxess’s strategy, and one of our company’s strategic pillars for corporate social responsibility. The sole objective is to help improve and sustain the quality of life of the people, in the communities in which we operate,” said Strydom.

Principal of the school, Joyce Vilakazi, expressed her gratitude at the involvement of the company.

“We wish to convey our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Lanxess for opening their hearts in order to help us confront the enrolment problems, we faced due to limited resources.”

Bongani Vilakazi of the Department of Education, was overjoyed about the newest addition to the school’s complement of classrooms.

“We are indebted to Lanxess. They have built more than a classroom; they have invested in the children’s futures.

We could have future doctors, engineers and managing directors being taught in this new classroom,” he said.

Following the handing over of the classroom, school staff had the opportunity to admire the interior of the classroom before it gets put to use.
