MONDAY was dreadful and seemed longer then usual for educators and learners at Vryheid Comprehensive Secondary as they mourned the sudden passing of their principal.

Mr Harry ‘Javas’ Maseko, who was also the vice president of the Bikers For Eva Club, passed away on Sunday afternoon while travelling home from Witbank on the N2 with two other bikers (Tebza and Mzitho).

It is alleged that the three were sent off the road by a blue Isuzu van that was overtaking on a blind rise when it failed to return to its correct lane on time.

All three bikers are said to have done their best to avoid the head on collision by negotiating their way on the gravel on the side of the road but Harry and Tebza lost control of their bikes.

Harry was declared deceased on scene while Tebza sustained minor injuries for which he was treated at Piet Retief Hospital.

“The Maseko and Nkabinde families, as well as the entire Vryheid, Paulpietersburg and biking community have all lost a great gentleman, father figure, advisor, role model, great friend and a true icon. His peaceful and always caring soul will be deeply missed, ” said the President of Bikers For Eva Quinn Anthony.

Close family and friends have been sharing their heartfelt stories of how they came to know Mr Maseko and the impact he had on their lives.

Former chairperson for the Vryheid Comprehensive students also took to social media to share how Mr Maseko had been a great influence.

“We witnessed every moment during the passing of the baton from Mr Venter, to Mrs Zikalala and then to Mr Maseko. I feel extremely torn apart and highly confused of your passing. I feel honoured to have served my term of office as the Chairperson of VCSS under your 1st year of being our principal,” she wrote.

“You were a father and a mentor. A man who believed in transformation and unity. You were a giant and a great, great leader. Knowing you made me believe in myself and invest in myself. I shall not forget how you loved us as VCSS learners and how you always wanted us to highly represent you in competitions and leadership workshops. I was groomed at VCSS and I am proud of that. Your love for music played a huge role in my life, as that was one of the greatest things we had in common.

Our Principal who was a biker, a singer, a leader, a mentor and a great Father,” she said.

Mr Maseko will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 21. The church service will be at at Cecil Emmett Hall from 9AM.
