Carnegie Art Gallery to host two-day art workshop

Two artists, Mbongeni Msani, who is self-taught, and Carine Siecker, will be doing practical demonstrations of their artistic styles, from November 17 to November 18.

Art is more than a splash of colour on white canvas.

To illustrate this, Carnegie Art Gallery will be hosting a two-day event for artists and art lovers in November.

Two artists, Mbongeni Msani, who is self-taught, and Carine Siecker, will be doing practical demonstrations of their artistic styles, from November 17 to November 18.

Msani concentrates on human figures and portraits, using mixed media such as paints, tins, glue, and fibre, although his favorite mediums are chalk and oil pastels.

“Msani uses his imagination, and observation to visualise these portraits to preserve and honour the legacy of the well-known and ordinary people,” said Carnegie Art Gallery Curator, Phumzile Dlamini.

Msani has participated in the IziKhwepha Zethu and Heritage Group Exhibitions in the Durban Art Gallery, Bat Centre, African Art Centre, Newcastle Creative Network Madadeni Exhibition, Gauteng and Mpumalanga. His art expertise will leave art lovers amazed.

Carine Siecker is a pharmacist by profession, but an artist at heart. Her painting technique is expressionistic, being heavily influenced by artists such as van Gogh, Matisse, Frida Kahlo, and Irma Stern.

Siecker viewed artwork as a means to honour the beauty of God’s creation, as she believed the mere process of making art was mimicking and reflecting God’s creative energy in a small mortal way.

Msani will initiate the event on November 17 with a demonstration and a walkabout around his solo exhibit, and on November 18, Siecker will do a demonstration and a talk about her artworks.

Both events will start at 9am and end at 1pm. Artists wishing to be tutored or advised by either Msani or Siecker, are invited to bring their own materials for this purpose.
