Social media marketing is a key tool for reaching new audiences and boosting sales for any business. This was one of the topics emphasised at the Social Media and Internet Marketing Masterclass hosted by Fiona Juan at Spanked Sports Bar.

Ms Juan is a Success Coach; one of her fields of focus is Marketing and Business Coaching. She explained that with most businesses having a social media presence and equipping their workforce with the necessary skills, it boost their brand, products, and audiences as well as transform the way businesses operate internally.

She stressed that business heads need to decide which social media platform best suits their business for their customers and the service or product they provide.

“If you still have elderly clientele send out those SMS’s in isiZulu for the message to reach them if you have to,” she explained.

One example was one of the attendees whose mother owns a hair salon for years. She mostly has elderly clients and wants to attract younger people. She was advised to do so by opening up an Instagram account and post young and fresh hairstyles there.

Some of the other topics at the masterclass included innovative social media solutions such as fun competitions, demo videos, brand awareness, bad publicity and conversation.

Another important focus was that companies should place emphasis on social media and ensure that employees are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills set to assist businesses promote services or products. Ms Juan went on to highlight the benefits of these.

Those who took the masterclass were taken through it with practical examples, and lot of visuals, while sharing plenty of ‘go to’ sites and apps to assist staff so they can evolve with social media. Those who attended walked away with valuable information and lots of new ideas to begin implementing.
