They are said to be living in fear because of several frightening incidents that have happened recently in the area.

On September 29, the body of a young woman from Hlathidam was found after she went missing for weeks. Eighteen-year-old Sinikiwe Ngobese had been dumped in a tributary of the Buffalo River, known as the Umzinyathi River, next to the Buffalo Bridge near her home area.
According to sources, Miss Ngobese was last seen on the evening she went missing by the taxi driver who left her with her groceries on the road next to her home. She had been returning from a salon in town.
The SAPS, together with the community of the Hlathidam area and family members, went in search of the girl for weeks and were horrified when her body was found.

Community members do not want to identify themselves. They are said to be living in fear because of several frightening incidents that have happened recently in the area.
At Sinikiwe’s funeral, several young women protested, marching to the cemetery holding placards with messages to stop women and children abuse as well as raising awareness of the brutal killings happening around the country.
Among the marchers were women from the local organization called Hlathidam Foundation, community members, friends and Ongoye University colleagues of Sinikiwe.
