Monday in the park is not pleasant say residents after enduring another weekend of boozy parties

Residents have threatened to close the park themselves if the authorities continue to turn a deaf ear

It has been written about ad nausea but the parties are continuing at the much-maligned Coronation Park. Residents who contacted the Courier over the weekend and on Monday said the first parties pulled in early on Saturday and Sunday mornings and were not deterred by the inclement weather.

Loud music, littering and drinking in public accompanied the parties, residents said, and on Monday the park area was carpeted with green liquor bottles.

At one stage a police vehicle was also seen among the many vehicles that had pulled in on Sunday morning although it is not clear if they were joining the party or admonishing the revelers. Those who spoke to the Courier said the former was the most likely explanation.

Residents who fought, what has been, a losing battle to have the park fenced off – especially the area near the corner of Coronation and McKenzie Streets – or to have the Municipality enforce their own by-laws proclaimed on one of the signs in the park.
