Lone leopard spotted outside Dundee

Leopards are indigenous to this part of Northern KZN

A leopard has been spotted in the vicinity of the Nquthu turn off on the Vryheid road.  A motorists spotted the big cat while travelling on the road last night.

Conservationists said that a lone leopard has been known to roam in that area.

In 2015, a  leopard was shot dead after it had attacked and mauled a man in the n the IsiBindi valley, in the Elandskraal area.

Those in the area said the man had ‘actively gone out to hunt the leopard with dogs’. The man then shot and wounded the animal, which in return proceeded to maul the man.
As a rule, leopards avoid people.

Leopards are said to be more active in the area as humans encroach on their traditional territories.

Leopards are said to be excellent in controlling the monkey population, say local farmers.
