Tree of Lights illuminates the festive season

At the Tree of Lights Service, each light on the tree symbolises the memory of a loved one

Estcourtonians gathered on Friday evening to observe the Tree of Lights service.

Hosted by Estcourt Hospice Association, this annual event is set aside to remember loved ones who have died or wish family and friends well over the festive season. Locals buy a light, the cost is R40, and add a message.

At the Tree of Lights Service, each light on the tree symbolises the memory of a loved one. On Friday, locals met at Hospice House, where tea and eats were served before the service. Christmas carols and Bible messages were shared before the highlight of the evening.

Moving outside, locals sang ‘Silent Night’ while the lights on the tree were switched on.

There were several approving gasps and comments from the crowd, some of whom videoed and photographed the beautiful tree.
