Cancer survivors inspire and support

Survivors discussed how drivers were needed to assist after treatment, as well as training for caregivers and support for family members who are grieving or have a newly diagnosed relative

A year-end cancer survivors meeting was held on Saturday. Survivors, volunteers, caregivers and visitors met at the Estcourt Methodist Church hall to reflect on the year that has passed.

Mrs RD Peerbhay, who hosted the meeting, said that at the beginning of the year, cancer survivors requested that meetings be held every three months.

During these meetings support, experiences and inspiration is shared among the group. Meetings for 2018 were planned before a prayer ‘Let there be peace on Earth’ was read.

One of the topics that was emphasised was the need for support. Survivors discussed how drivers were needed to assist after treatment, as well as training for caregivers and support for family members who are grieving or have a newly diagnosed relative.

A survivor of seven years excitedly told the group that she had been given the all-clear during her previous check-up.
