Festive season road safety campaign is launched in Estcourt

To enforce the law and also to remind motorists of their presence on the road, local traffic officers from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality officially embarked on their Festive Season Road Safety program

As the festive season approaches, some drivers take the ‘silly’ season quite literally.

An increase in the numbers of drunk or unlicensed drivers, unroadworthy vehicles and safety offences is noted during the December/January holiday period.

To enforce the law and also to remind motorists of their presence on the road, local traffic officers from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality officially embarked on their Festive Season Road Safety program.

The launch was held at the Protection Services Station in Loskop Road on Friday.

Organiser, Nafisa Gunkel explained that this was the first local festive season road safety campaign and thanked those colleagues from various emergency services who had availed themselves to be part of it.

These departments included the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) Midway, N3TC, paramedics and Estcourt police. General Manager in the municipality’s Community Services Department Ms Ndlela said that this initiative was to communicate with communities about road safety, especially during the festive season.

“We hope that this festive road safety launch will be fruitful and that it will take place annually. We will ensure visibility and also provide information. People must be aware of how they should behave,” said Ms Ndlela.

Thereafter the delegation proceeded to the Wembezi road where a roadblock was held.
