Mayor tackles Mason Street mayhem

NOVELIST, Ken Kesey, is quoted as saying, “You don’t lead by pointing and telling people some place to go. You lead by going to that place and making a case.”
A great example of these words in action is AbaQulusi Mayor, Jerry Sibiya, who can often be seen engaging with the community at ground level, going to where he is needed and making things happen.
Last Wednesday saw AbaQulusi’s “man of action”, Jerry Sibiya, once again in action as he visited the busy intersection where Mason Street meets Church Street. The intersection is a confusing mess of traffic at the best of times due to the mayhem that ensues without the necessary signage, as well as the congestion that builds up due to the confusion regarding which way traffic is supposed to flow.

“It is a one way street,” stated Mayor Sibiya, after chatting to the locals regarding the matter, “but without the correct signage, nobody can guess which way it is supposed to go and there is nothing to indicate that it is a one way…”
In reference to the congestion of traffic in the area, Deputy Mayor Mncedisi Maphisa, who accompanied Mayor Sibiya and other officials from AbaQulusi, pointed out that, if a fire had to break out in one of the shops, there would not be adequate access for a fire truck to assist.
“It is a dangerous corner and measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the community…”
