Power back on in Mpati area outage

There was widespread damage to municipal infrastructure after Thursday's storm

Power has been finally restored to the Mpati area following a cable break after the recent storm.  It said that there was cable damage in the area and that Eskom had to turn off the feed to allow municipal workers to correct the fault.

Power went off at around 8pm last night and, in some areas, was off until a few minutes ago.

Electricians worked frantically after there was widespread damage to the power supply because of fallen trees.

Several traffic lights were also damaged and the main Gladstone/Victoria Street is still flashing red and motorists are urged to treat the intersection as a four way stop.

Residents complained that operators manning the Municipal emergency number, 034 21 222 22, are not at all helpful and in some cases calls went unanswered.  The municipality is to be respond to these claims.
