Jailed for 16 years for raping little girl after viewing a DVD

"Rape victims should come forward no matter their circumstances," said Warrant Officer Khambule

Thembinkosi Paseli (36) from Glencoe was jailed for 16 years when he appeared in the Dundee Regional Court for raping a girl who was 9-years-old at the time.
The assault dates back to September 2014 when Paseli and the girl were home alone in Sithembile, Glencoe, while the aunt had gone to town.
They had been watching a movie with a rape scene and according to the minor, Paseli asked her what would she do if she were to be raped.
She responded by saying she would scream and cry. That is when he led her to his bedroom and forced himself on her.
She reported the matter by sending a message to her granny who stays in Newcastle, but she never responded. Later, the girl called her mother, who stays in Johannesburg, and who arrived the following day.
Her mother took her to a hospital in Newcastle and she was examined and the results concluded that the girl had been raped.

It was through the dedication and hard work of Warrant Officer BPP Khambule of the Dundee SAPS FCS Unit and the very co-operative victim, that the sentence was secured.
The mother reported the attack to the Glencoe SAPS and a case of rape was opened. In a statement read out on her behalf in Glencoe, the victim said: “I felt useless that my aunt sold me out and after what happened I couldn’t even go to the shops alone. I was scared of men like Paseli, who can’t keep their hands to themselves and who were going to abuse me again”.

“As a detective, I’m happy that justice was served at the end of it all.
“Rape victims should come forward no matter their circumstances,” said Warrant Officer Khambule. “They must report the matter immediately and should not wait for family members or anyone else to brush the matter off, as evidence disappears after time.”
