The deceased was in an advanced stage of decomposition.  Initially an inquest was opened into the death but later as investigations progressed, a murder case was opened.

It was discovered that the deceased had been reported missing earlier in the month.  It is alleged that on the day of his disappearance, he had been accused of stealing cattle and had been taken to the forest to be ‘questioned’ by members of the community.

He subsequently died during the incident and his body was left in the forest. Police wasted no time in arresting two suspects alleged to have been involved in the murder.

The two suspects, aged 45 and 46, made a brief appearance in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on February 21 where they were remanded into custody.  The deceased has been identified as 34-year-old Mandla Sishalaba Mlambo.
